CVE-2024-53689 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230500 with Critical Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: Fix potential deadlock while freezing queue and acquiring sysfs_lock For storing a value to a queue attribute, the queue_attr_store function first freezes the queue (->q_usage_counter(io)) and then acquire ->sysfs_lock. This seems not correct as the usual ordering should be to acquire ->sysfs_lock before freezing the queue. This incorrect ordering causes the following lockdep splat which we are able to reproduce always simply by accessing /sys/kernel/debug file using ls command: [ 57.597146] WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected [ 57.597154] 6.12.0-10553-gb86545e02e8c #20 Tainted: G W [ 57.597162] ------------------------------------------------------ [ 57.597168] ls/4605 is trying to acquire lock: [ 57.597176] c00000003eb56710 (&mm->mmap_lock){++++}-{4:4}, at: __might_fault+0x58/0xc0 [ 57.597200] but task is already holding lock: [ 57.597207] c0000018e27c6810 (&sb->s_type->i_mutex_key#3){++++}-{4:4}, at: iterate_dir+0x94/0x1d4 [ 57.597226] which lock already depends on the new lock. CVE-2024-56569 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230502 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ftrace: Fix regression with module command in stack_trace_filter When executing the following command: # echo write*:mod:ext3 > /sys/kernel/tracing/stack_trace_filter The current mod command causes a null pointer dereference. While commit 0f17976568b3f (ftrace: Fix regression with module command in stack_trace_filter) has addressed part of the issue, it left a corner case unhandled, which still results in a kernel crash. (CVE-2024-56569)Note that Nessus relies on the presence of the package as reported by the vendor.

CVE-2024-56781 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230503 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/prom_init: Fixup missing powermac #size-cells On some powermacs `escc` nodes are missing `#size-cells` properties, which is deprecated and now triggers a warning at boot since commit 045b14ca5c36 (of: WARN on deprecated #address- cells/#size-cells handling). For example: Missing '#size-cells' in /pci@f2000000/mac-io@c/escc@13000 WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 0 at drivers/of/base.c:133 of_bus_n_size_cells+0x98/0x108 Hardware name: PowerMac3,1 7400 0xc0209 PowerMac ... CVE-2024-50187 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230504 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/vc4: Stop the active perfmon before being destroyed Upon closing the file descriptor, the active performance monitor is not stopped. Although all perfmons are destroyed in `vc4_perfmon_close_file()`, the active performance monitor's pointer (`vc4->active_perfmon`) is still retained. If we open a new file descriptor and submit a few jobs with performance monitors, the driver will attempt to stop the active performance monitor using the stale pointer in `vc4->active_perfmon`. However, this pointer is no longer valid because the previous process has already terminated, and all performance monitors associated with it have been destroyed and freed. To fix this, when the active performance monitor belongs to a given process, explicitly stop it before destroying and freeing it. (CVE-2024-50187)Note that Nessus relies on the presence of the package as reported by the vendor.

CVE-2024-50272 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230505 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: filemap: Fix bounds checking in filemap_read() If the caller supplies an iocb->ki_pos value that is close to the filesystem upper limit, and an iterator with a count that causes us to overflow that limit, then filemap_read() enters an infinite loop. This behaviour was discovered when testing xfstests generic/525 with the localio optimisation for loopback NFS mounts. (CVE-2024-50272)Note that Nessus relies on the presence of the package as reported by the vendor.

CVE-2024-50096 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230506 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nouveau/dmem: Fix vulnerability in migrate_to_ram upon copy error The `nouveau_dmem_copy_one` function ensures that the copy push command is sent to the device firmware but does not track whether it was executed successfully. In the case of a copy error (e.g., firmware or hardware failure), the copy push command will be sent via the firmware channel, and `nouveau_dmem_copy_one` will likely report success, leading to the `migrate_to_ram` function returning a dirty HIGH_USER page to the user. This can result in a security vulnerability, as a HIGH_USER page that may contain sensitive or corrupted data could be returned to the user. To prevent this vulnerability, we allocate a zero page. Thus, in case of an error, a non-dirty (zero) page will be returned to the user. (CVE-2024-50096)Note that Nessus relies on the presence of the package as reported by the vendor.

CVE-2025-21707 |
Description:
Nessus Plugin ID 230507 with Medium Severity
Synopsis
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed with a vulnerability that the vendor indicates will not be patched.
Description
The Linux/Unix host has one or more packages installed that are impacted by a vulnerability without a vendor supplied patch available. - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: consolidate suboption status MPTCP maintains the received sub-options status is the bitmask carrying the received suboptions and in several bitfields carrying per suboption additional info. Zeroing the bitmask before parsing is not enough to ensure a consistent status, and the MPTCP code has to additionally clear some bitfiled depending on the actually parsed suboption. The above schema is fragile, and syzbot managed to trigger a path where a relevant bitfield is not cleared/initialized: BUG: KMSAN: uninit-value in __mptcp_expand_seq net/mptcp/options.c:1030 [inline] BUG: KMSAN: uninit-value in mptcp_expand_seq net/mptcp/protocol.h:864 [inline] BUG: KMSAN: uninit-value in ack_update_msk net/mptcp/options.c:1060 [inline] BUG: KMSAN: uninit- value in mptcp_incoming_options+0x2036/0x3d30 net/mptcp/options.c:1209 __mptcp_expand_seq net/mptcp/options.c:1030 [inline] mptcp_expand_seq net/mptcp/protocol.h:864 [inline] ack_update_msk net/mptcp/options.c:1060 [inline] mptcp_incoming_options+0x2036/0x3d30 net/mptcp/opt...
